About the Role

The Adoption team is a brand new team for 2024 as we enter our next stage of growth at Virta. Identified as a key focus area, the Adoption team is tasked with combining innovations from our machine learning team with human judgment from our coaches and clinicians to ensure our members feel supported and ready for success as they start their journey with Virta. Comprised of and existing group of diverse Virta engineers who will help get things up and running technically we're looking for a strong people manager to help them develop their careers, has the desire and aptitude to help us refine our processes around experimentation and delivery, and can bring insights and experience to the other engineering managers in the organization to establish a strong and collaborative first team.

Responsibilities:

  • People Management and Team Dynamics. Mentor, guide, and support the team members towards healthy dynamics by fostering a positive and collaborative environment.
  • Career Development and Growth. Create individualized development plans, identify and facilitate training, workshops, and other growth opportunities. Recognize and reward outstanding performers. Provide performance feedback.
  • Cross-functional Collaboration and Communication. Bridge the gap between engineering and other departments ensuring clear communication. Work closely with product, design, AI, and analytics functions along with various stakeholder groups. Advocate for what the team needs for success.
  • Process Management and Improvement. Drive continuous improvement of engineering processes through feedback, retrospectives, iteration, best practices, and prior experience. Help refine our methodology towards the sweet spot between the team's needs and the company's goals.
  • Technical Strategy and Decision-making. The focus is on management, but understanding the technical landscape is essential to ensuring key technical decisions are in alignment with business objectives and broader technical strategy. Inform individual team members technical growth.

Requirements:

  • 3+ years of experience managing software engineering teams
  • Experience delivering value to end users and internal stakeholders
  • Proven ability to define and track engineering metrics to quantify team health
  • Able to understand business metrics (KPI, OKR) and put them in context to the team
  • Prior experience building collaborative, high performing teams in a remote environment

Bonus Points For…

  • Building and delivering multi-platform applications in React Native or similar
  • Experience with Go or Python, Monolith-to-microservices patterns, event driven architectures.
  • Familiarity working in a regulated industry, particularly healthcare.

90 Day Plan

Within your first 90 days at Virta, we expect you will do the following:

  • Familiarize yourself with the team and its stakeholders. Understand roles, responsibilities, strengths and improvement areas, aspirations. Get a pulse on team dynamics, understand expectations, and collaborations, with an eye towards what to safeguard and where enhanced coordination is needed.
  • Establish and enhance team processes. Review the current process, intended outcomes, and methodology of your team and the teams in the group. Bring your expertise to identify inefficiency, risk, and ways to enhance delivery or team health.
  • Align the learnings from above with the product roadmap and technical roadmap to start building a strategy for your team that melds the short-term and long-term goals of the team with that of the larger organization or the business. Have a plan to iterate on this strategy over time.

Virta has a location based compensation structure. Starting pay will be based on a number of factors and commensurate with qualifications and experience. For this role, the compensation range is $157,139 - $202,943. Information about Virta's benefits is on our Careers page at:
